cardio question

I just want to know if biking is equivelant to running to work on my cardio and how much biking and or running should i be doing to improve my cardio. I would also like to know any other techniques other than situps to strengthend my ribs and shins. oh and how about skipping rope or just plain skipping compare to running too.

Biking is not equivalent to running either in burning calories or in improving aerobic capacity. Jumping rope is an excellent exercise but doesn't replace good old-fashioned roadwork. And sit-ups don't strengthen your ribs, I'm not sure where you're going with that one...

Biking is easier on the joints and a lot of your bodyweight is supported because you're sitting on a seat. That said, biking is my main source for cardio training and I do enjoy it but you're really comparing apples to oranges here. Biking will give you good cardio benefits but it will do little to increase your running performance and vice versa.

Do sprints on the bike....it will make a big difference. It's good variety for cardio. I always try to run and bike as part of my routine.

I know my time on the Lifecycle is not fun at all. Maybe not as good as running cardio wise but it sure helps increase endurance for your legs.

A good biking routine is going balls out for a minute and then slow it down for a minute (avg speed), repeat this for a full 30 mins.....you'll be knackered at the end.

Biking burns about half the calories( I believe) as running would....but as previously mentioned it saves your joints

I should point out that through my experience the bike IS easier on the joints but doing sprints on the bike CAN be really hard on the ass.
