Cardio with an injured knee?

Hi, the other day while going over the Muay Thai clinch my partner threw me on the ground and i landed on my knee (I told him i was new with the clinch so i guess he took that as an invitation to toss me on the ground as hard as he could; maybe i frustrated him in sparring earlier in the day?).

I love running but now with my bum knee i can't run as fast i used too (i usually run at least 3 miles every other day at about a 8 mph and at the end i do alternate sprints)

I hate the fucking elliptical, i get ear infections just looking at the water, so how the hell am i supposed to get a good cardio workout?

I'm open to all suggestions so please, any advice is appreciated!

Rowing machine, bicycle, or ear plugs for the water?

That sucks man! Hope it heals up fast for ya! But, I'd say the heavybag, head over to rosstraining.com Ross has an article called, "Intensifying the Heavybag"! Check that out if you haven't read it before! Also, sandbag carrying or weight dragging, you don't have to run fast, I'm no doctor so I don't know if that'd be bad for a healing knee or not, and maybe a UBE I think it's called!

It's too bad you hate the elyptical.

I tricked my knee out last summer and spent 5 months training on the elyptical.

I liked it so much that I now work it into my cardio training along with running.

I find that the minimal impact allows me to avoid the overstress on my knee joints.

I'd say go for the water or something very very low impact for now.

If you knee is causing you that much discomfort for all of these activities it's your body telling you to stop. You should stop being a hero & just take the time off to heal. You're not doing yourself any favors by pushing it. A few weeks off won't destroy your current fitness levels.

I'm struggling with the same problem. I want to get out and run but it's just too hard on my knees.

Mountainbiking... is an incredible workout and can be much harder than running if you've got some good trails to ride on. As well it's incredibly fun.

Heavybag work... I found a good bag on craiglist for 25 bucks, and I do rounds on the bag.

Jump rope... It can be very strenuous depending on how much you put into it, and it doesn't really effect your knee.
