I use the Nike Triax. The older models are a bit cheaper, between 80-90 or so.

The polar B1 is 45 dollars (though I remember paying 60 dollars for mine). I wouldn't hurt for you to do a little looking around before assuming they're all 100+ dollars.

http://www.amazon.com/Polar-B1-Monit.../dp/B000KN51CE 37 dollars on amazon. Thought upon taking a closer look at mine I see its an A3. not a bad model, tells you average heart rate, has a user defined zone and an alarm that sounds if you go outside of that zone. Looks like everything fitness sells it for 80 bucks.

just like anything else, there are loads of items in many price ranges. I got a cheap polar from a local sporting store for $50.

I do want a super $$ badass one eventually, mainly because I love datalogging whether its for my car, or tracking my workouts and uploading them into graphs.

I'm with you on that one...I'm a datalogging freak...whether it is my workouts, my car, or the network at work I keep logs on everything (I even watch my webalizer stats for my website daily).
