It's because conditioning is specific to the activity that you train in. It takes time for your leg muscles to become conditioned to running, your heart and lungs may be in great shape, but you still need to run to get better at running. Having a well conditioned heart and lungs would give you advantage over someone who is a couch potato, but you still have put in the time running, and you may want to adjust your running program if your not making gains with each training session.

That and the fact that not everyone is made for every sport.

There are different "types" of cardio. I could run long distances at a high pace. But when I started out grappling, I gassed in two minutes. Now I can grapple for 20 minutes nonstop.
If you start running you'll probably get used to it pretty fast and you won't get tired as fast.

Keep at the running and you will get better pretty quickly I would imagine, taking into account your cardio in other activities. It always took me a while to adjust between seasons back in high school, going from swimming to running, from running to swimming. Also, work on your stride efficiency. You may be moving up and down too much and not farawrd enough. This is a very common mistake, one which I made for years, and you will really notice the diference. It should feel almost as if you are pulling the road (or trail) beneath you and not bounding or leaping or pushing, if you are doing distance running. Should feel very smooth.

All cardio is different, I was a swimmer when I was younger and I quit swimming and started lacrosse and fighting. I can run for a good 45 min with out a problem, but when I hop back in a pool I am tired after a few laps. You just need to get your legs conditioned and your body used to that work out.

Good answers. We all adapt to what we do. Our body becomes our function. It will not expel any more energy then what it needs too...Sux..meaning we all cannot be great at everything at the sametime.

How's your form? Good form makes a big difference. Most people think that you're born with a "natural" stride and that's it.....BS. Find a running coach or watch some footage of olympic sprinters and distance runners for some tips. There are several web sites with "efficient running" tips. You need to pay attention to your breathing too. Running is easy, running correctly takes practice.
