Can shrugging shoulders damage my tendons.

One of my teachers answered the question of is this cracking and crunching feeling and sound from joints bad for me? He said the sound and feeling it makes is simply your tendons crossing to change allignment. He compared tendons visually with guitar strings. I kinda got the jist of what he was saying. Does my shrugging my shoulders and making this crunching, cracking sound, and feeling actually damage my shoulder joints or should I stop worrying? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

It really only happens when I roll them and shrug them excessively. My neck also cracks and pops aswell. It only ever really hurts now and again but usually no pain at all. One of my Karate teachers said I should never roll my neck backwards at all. Some one has very recently advised me that clicking popping and crunching while rolling my shoulders backwards can cause damage.

Doubtful. Unless there is any sensation of pain, joint cracking is nothing to worry about.

Incidentally, if I windmill my arms around while doing narrow stance squats, I can bust out quite an impressive percussion number.

Do not roll your shoulders, you'll get a better workout by going straight up and down and adding more weight. If you want to work more the middle of the trap try lying down on an incline bench face down and do shrugs at that angle.

can a slurpee from 7'11 give you a brain freeze?
well the answer to that is yes actually BUT besides the point.
My point is I have no idea, I only do plain up and down shrugs.

I wasn't refering to weight training, just stretching. I will try the excercises you mentioned though.
