Burpees able to be only cardio exercise?

Is it possible to have burpees as your only possible form of cardio exercise?

After doing 100 of them my body hurts more than if i run 2 or 3 kms, so im starting to think i might keep burpees as my only cardio.

can you guys give me some feedback on if this is a smart/totally stupid idea?

cheers

It is totally stupid. Not because burpees aren't effective (they are), but because limiting yourself to any one sole activity for cardio as as dumb as deciding you're only going to do benches in order to develop strength. You've got to mix it up, and why wouldn't you want to? There are a million forms of cool bodyweight exercises you can do along with your burpee routine.

It really depends on what you're training for. For MMA I think a mix is important.I can crank out a decent number of burpees, but my mile time stays the same.

How fast did you do the burpees? If you did the 100 burpees in an agressive pace and with a tuckjump at the end you deffinitively have my respect. I see nothing wrong with doing burpees as your primary conditioning tool for a while until your start to stagnate.

But as others have said it is more beneficial for you to wary yourself. It doesnt have to be long distans running either. Why not try and mix some of those burpees in together with some 400m sprints and some 100 and 200m to. That will kill you quick.

Thats not enough. You still need to mix in some long distance and sprints.

thats a burpee.

I do them in 3 sets of 30 then 1 set of 10 with pushups. As fast as I can (yeah i include tuck jumps - but they go really crappy by the end)

Im mainly doing it to drop weight atm which is why im curious if im able to do them as my primary cardio over running or swimming.

Im thinking i'll just have to keep doing other cardio and try to include burpees whenever i can.

Way to set yourself back....!

If burpees work so well for you, why dont you integrate them into a decent cardio program and get the most out of your training.

Sprints /hill sprints /distance running /burpees /muscular endurance circuits /sparring
