Burpee question

I'm a little unsure of how to use burpees. Do you do them as sets/reps, or do you do them for a certain amount of time, or do you just do as many as you can??

Mix it up

Set/reps work alright (5 x 10, 60 seconds or less between sets for a beginner is usually good), but I'd recommend you try ladders, pyramids, using them in circuits or as active rest, using them in the tabata protocol, and trying something like the 10 minute challenge (100 burpees as fast as possible). Don't go heavy on burpees on consecutive days, but don't neglect this great exercise

What Brandon said is right. You have to split up your burpees in sets. A regular athlete is supposed to do 10-12 burpees in 30 seconds and you're supposed to preform burpees as fast as you can. You should be exploding when you do them.

different names do exist for them, my one coach calls them bodybuilders. I like the 'puking when your done' addition!

if you find them too dificult when you begin, improvise.. remove the "jump" at the end, or remove the pushup.. i know a guy who was really overweight and out of shape, he would squat, go to the pushup position, spread his legs like a v and stand up again.. he used other exercises/ workouts as well, but thats how he started to use burpees in his routine..
you can do ladders and work your way down (10 reps, 9,8,7) use pyramids (1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1) or just blow out 30 seconds max, rest, and repeat..
