if you had a cracked or broken rib you'd know it every time you breathe or laughed or moved in any way.

so they're 99% sure not to be cracked. there are a ton of small ligaments in the ribcage though and they are easily damaged, and muscle pulls are common. so it could be any combination of those and possible bone bruising. if you go to a doc he'll just say try not to do anything active for a while. so dont waste your time with a doc unless you're pissin blood or crying in bed.

take a lot of really hot baths, and really cold baths. make the water as extreme as you can handle. also move as much as you can with low intensity. when you feel the pain/stretch pain stop. these things can fix themselves really fast, or take a long ass time and might linger with you for a while.

I got a crack in my rib, and it hurt, but it was fairly ok (and I wasnt sure either if it was broken, a crack in one, or something else until..) until I did grappling training like 2-3 days after, I did like 5-10 mins of grappling with a partner in sidemount and didnt even feel any pain, but around that point it quickly got worse, and worse and worse..;) Until I couldnt continue training that session.

Everyone I have talked with who had cracked/broken ribs have said 4-5 (6 at most) weeks if you treat them right. It held true for me to, around 4-5 weeks until I could train full force again, and I agravated them with grappling and tried to train through it as much as I could...

You're doing the right thing...the doctor's prognosis (even if it's negative) is just going to result in telling you to rest.

Speaking from experience, here are some things to avoid:
* Sit ups
* Laughing
* Sneezing
* Coughing
(I guess sparring would be obvious)

When I was rodeoing I took a pretty good kick from a bucking horse in the side of the ribs one time and cracked one. It didn't hurt to breath so much as it hurt to cough, hurt to walk unless it wasslow and smooth. I wrapped them good and put some kind of neoprene sleeve that held eveything in place and rode next night but it hurt like bloody hell. I took off a couple weeks after that to heal up. It hurt eveytime I rode for a month or so after the layoff but eventually went away. good luck.
