Body for Life

Just curious if anyone has tried the Body For Life challenge that is sponsored by the EAS company? If you have what kind of results did you get and was it worth it to do the challenge? Thanks

It's more of a body-composition challenge for soccer moms versus conditioning for martial arts. The whole premise is to eat smaller frequent meals and increase protein. Woo.

Besides, you're already doing that, because that's just common dietary knowledge for athletes, right?

I think that was probably the first book I ever read on any form of training. The book is 80% corny shit, but there are a scant few grains of usefulness in it - specifically the now-ubiquitous meal planning Mike mentions, and a 20 minute cardio scheme which is basically just HIIT training. The weight training is some BBing HIT superset crap.

The book's training portion relies heavily on a RPE Scale.

I like the cardio-scheme. I still use it from time to time when I only have 20 minutes or so for a run.
Other than that, the workouts are decent, but nothing that really is going to help with MMA or fighting. Everything is in the "hypertrophy" (sarcoplasmic), which although will help aesthetically, is pretty much functionally useless.

That pretty much sums it up.

Like others have said, BFL is mainly for soccer mom (and dad) types or anyone who is overweight, lacks muscle, but isn't an athlete. Basically it's for beginners to lose fat and gain a bit of muscle and it does that job pretty well.

The lifting, cardio, and meal planning are all sound, but again, designed mainly for beginners.

BFL was the first book I had ever read (back in 98 when I was 18) that tied all three together.

It is a decent mass-market source for improving your body composition, but I agree other than losing weight and gaining some muscle / LBM it would be more useful if you were overweight or obese and wanted to pre-condition before starting martial arts or grappling training.
