Is it better to eat before or after you run???

I am about to eat some pasta...and then wait about 30 minutes and do my run. Should I be eating after my run? I figured I'd eat before..so I'd have that energy...

I usually something like a small salad. I don't know about pasta, but i think its a good idea to either eat fruits or vegetables and drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.

I really think something like that depends on the person. If you can eat a bowl of pasta and feel great and then go run and feel like the pasta gave you energy then by all means go for it. If I did that I'd be sick as hell. Pasta is very fattening, but if you can eat it, then run that shouldn't matter because you'll burn most of that. Pasta is definitely one of the best forms of carbs you can get so maybe that'll work for you. To answer your original question, I definitely you should have something light in your stomach before running. You have to decide how much is too much. Drink plenty of water for sure.

I can't eat anything for about 60-90 minutes before I run. Having anything in my stomach gives me cramps and monstrous levels of gas. Best to eat a meal a good while before you set out IMO, you'll have sufficient energy and your guts won't be churning and threatening ill results.

i usually a carb heavy meal the day b4 my distance run. after the run, i eat some protein bars to replenish my muscles.

i would not eat a pasta 1 hr b4 my run. it's too heavy for me.

again. this is a personal choice.

I have read the below in MANY articles and have founded it to be invaluably true with my workouts (whether bag work, lifting or running):

http://diet.ivillage.com/issues/itim...,,145t,00.html

"Every responsible source in bodybuilding and athletics recommends that you eat after training, and preferably within 45 minutes (maybe up to 60) after a workout. This period, known as the golden hour, is when the muscles absorb the most nutrients and when glycogen, an energy reserve in your muscles, is replaced most efficiently. The actual composition of the post-workout meal is a matter of some debate; for optimal glycogen replacement, most people recommend carbohydrates, but a certain amount of protein (at least 10 percent of the meal) is needed for muscle repair and growth.

IMO you need protein AND carbs post workout to recover efficiently, and you should just have a moderate sized carb meal at most pre-workout or else you'll be fucked for the run
