Bad Pain In Lower Right Ribs

Everytime I got to MMA class and we start kicking after about 20-25 kicks i start getting really bad sharp pains in the lower right rib area. This is after we have done plenty of warm up drills (running, boxing, sprawls) Its so bad I cant continue to kick and have to sit out. We have only been using our right leg so I dont know if it will happen if i kicked with the left. Anyclues on what this could be? I drink plenty of water and even pedalyte if its really hot out. I'm in good shape from jiu-jitsu

How come you guys only kick with your right? Do you stand orthodox? Best thing to do is maybe rest a couple of days go back and if it still hurts, then the only thing to do is go to a doctor. That is what everyone will tell you.

Yes we stand orthodoxed. I think we only kick with the right for right now is cause everyone is still working on technique and learning the basics. I googled it and people said its called side spints where the diaphram is cramping up. I only do this once a week to so i do take days off inbetween.

Is it a cramp type pain?

I used to have the same problem until I corrected my breathing. Make sure you breathe fully and don't take "shallow" breaths. That should prevent the pain entirely. If you do still experience it, raise your hand over your head and massage the spot with your opposite hand while breathing deeply. It helps the cramp clear up quicker.

Sounds like you haven't been there for a while (judging by having only done right kicks). Honestly, they are probably kind of a wonky school if they are only training one leg for even ONE class, let alone multiple classes. It could well be any number of weird things they are doing in that program that could be over/under training one side.

Its simple, BREATHE!!

When I have new students to Muay Thai class alot of them say the samething, when they kick, they hold their breaths in and flex their stomach to hit, when you are about to hit (punch, kick, knee) exhale, make the "tssss" noise.

Try that for fun, learn to breathe, sounds stupid but trust me alot of people do not know how to breathe properly.

PM me and let me know if it worked?
