Muscle endurance question.

I've been glancing through Bas Rutten's Big Book Of Combat V.1, and in the weight training section, all the lifts I saw, he said to try 3 sets of 25 reps. This is A LOT more than I typically do at the gym, and couldn't even touch these numbers if I tried. These even go for dips and pull ups. I got a little worried about this, because that seems way more than a person, with excellant fitness even, can do. Is this reasonable, or am I not putting enough emphisis on "TO TRY". Sorry if I come off as wacky.

25 reps of what? 25 pushups is nothing, 25 chins is tough and so is 25 dips. Is this just for body weight exersizes or free weights too?

For muscle endurance I think you do less weight and more reps. It sounds like you are doing more weight with less reps which would build muscle strength rather than endurance.

Ask in the S&P about this kind of thing. Hope this helps

Alright, thanks, it does. Meurteverde, it literally did that for everything: Shoulder press, bench press, push ups, dips, chins, squats, you name it. I guess I was just a little concerned that maybe i'm slacking a lot, because I couldn't come close to those reps with a respectable amount of weight

Bas can pull that off because he's obviously build up a strength base over the years.

My recommendation? Scale the workout to suit your needs. Follow the set/rep scheme for the exercises that you can, use lighter weights to get those reps.

For dips, chins, use a different approach and work your way up until you can do them for the same 3x25 set/rep scheme.

Definitley kick up the amount of reps for muscle endurance. I do 25 reps of 45lb dumbbells for shoulder press.

Also, try low reps heavier weight and short rest periods for strength endurance.

mix it up... low reps and high reps... works on both slow twitch and fast twitch muscles.
