Anyone else notice this breathing/sweating phenomenon?

The one where you will be running long distance at a good clip... be breathing heavy, but not overly hard, and you're not really sweating much, if at all... but as soon as you stop, you start breathing even harder and you start sweating more?

I can never understand why I am out of breath and start pouring sweat after I STOP running. At least the part where I stop sweating. It's like I am out of fluid to sweat out, but I know that's not the case.

Unless it's like my body knows I am going to keep running, so it adjusts to try and hold my water in and not breathe as hard...

I've noticed the breathing thing before. I just assumed that it was because my heartrate was dropping but I still had high lactic acid levels in my legs so my body was trying to take in more O2 as a result but that may be too simplistic of a reason.

I can't comment on the sweating thing though as I usually sweat like a whore in church no matter what I'm doing.

similar thing happens to me. I think the sweating is because when I stop running I just notice more the sweat, I can be more aware of it coming out. The breathing heavy after stopping could be because of the lactic acid and the body trying to catch up oxygen and recover.

I am as lost as you about whether these reasons are valid or not.

two cents.

On distance runs, I notice myself not sweating until the last maybe 10-15% of the run then it just turns on like a faucet.

i noticed that too. I always just figured the sweating was because when your running you're getting airflow, and then you stop and all of a sudden your not - so you're not dissipating heat as well, and you sweat more to compensate. But who knows.

Same thing happens to me. I'll do 3 miles on a treadmill at a hard pace, and I'll be starting to breathe deep and heavy by the end of it but I won't be sweating too badly. Soon as I start to cool down (+/- 5mph), I can feel the sweat start to rapidly bead and drip on the sides of my head. My breathing will become very deep and I'll feel like my heartrate is hitting its highest point.

I think it's some kind of natural glitch because your body is trying to respond to a drastic change in pace and it freaks out for a minute.

I think you may be right. I don't acutally know, but that sounds about right.

It sounds logical for running outside, but this also happens on a treadmill... no wind, and probably very little difference in how the air is hitting your body between walking and jogging...
