The two posters above me have the right idea, but their answers are not fully correct.
The only way to reduce body fat percentage and to become more "cut" is to reduce calories and to do cardio, true. But the manner in which you exercise your abs also influences their morphology.
Weighted crunches or other exercises in which you reduce the distance between sternum and pubis work your rectus muscles, which tend to "bulge." Stomach vacuums work the transversus abdominis muscles, which tend to "flatten" your abs.
Of course, this discussion reeks of bodybuilding and pussyhood. Stomach vacuums have little functional value and your time would be better spent doing real core exercises like sledgehammers and woodchops. My interest in this topic is its anatomical pertinence.
