Anyone do stomach Vacuums?

Its a isometric exercise, I been doing it for the last few days. Its a exercise to strengthen the abs. I hear you lose your waist line too. Anybody recommend this. Any results from this exercise?

I'm harboring a secret wish that this thread gets moved to S&P and properly flamed.

Spot reduction is a myth.

The only way you lose your waistline is by doing cardio.

The two posters above me have the right idea, but their answers are not fully correct.

The only way to reduce body fat percentage and to become more "cut" is to reduce calories and to do cardio, true. But the manner in which you exercise your abs also influences their morphology.

Weighted crunches or other exercises in which you reduce the distance between sternum and pubis work your rectus muscles, which tend to "bulge." Stomach vacuums work the transversus abdominis muscles, which tend to "flatten" your abs.

Of course, this discussion reeks of bodybuilding and pussyhood. Stomach vacuums have little functional value and your time would be better spent doing real core exercises like sledgehammers and woodchops. My interest in this topic is its anatomical pertinence.

Yea, I've been doing this for a while and feel it really works well. It is a great excercise to do in a car, office or on the go.

I exhale all my breath, feel my abs tightening, and hold for appx 20 seconds, and repeat.

Then you and your boyfriend measure each other's waists and pose for each other? Go do some real ab work and get some real nutrition if you want them visible.

Save sucking it in and vaccums for the penis enlargement and blowjob forums.

What's the problem w/ vanity if you can work at it while you're driving down the freeway? And, no, I'd never heard of these before this thread.

Because even as 'vanity' it doesn't work as some of these guys seem to think. "Re-shaping" your abs for a 'longer leaner look' sounds like women who take up pilates.

Doing vacuums is basicly practicing sucking in your gut. Not only that but the thread is preaching the benefits of isometric exercise.

The visible ab musculature is used for crunching your chest towards your pelvis in some verison of the fetal position. A vacuum doesn't work those muscles. So even as an exercise for the posted reasons, it doesn't get the job done.

There's a reason BBers stopped emphasizing these 20 years ago.
