Any cyclist on Sherdog?
I used to cycle plenty until I out grew my bike. I have recently wanted to begin again but I am so out of the loop as to what's new, or quality with the cycling world? I know that a road bike will have an entry fee of about $700.00, and that's something very standard. I am looking to spend around $1400.00 to get something quality. I know that I want carbon forks and stays, and quality components (FSA Cranks, Shimano Ultegra etc. I'm familiar with Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Felt, and Ironhorse. I know that Ironhorse is the least expensive of these brands and claims to make as quality of a product as the others, but the others built their names with winning performance etc. I also know that Trek is supposed to manufacture the lightest aluminum, and carbon fiber of all of them, not that it really matters unless I plan to compete in something, but it's nice to have/know. If any of you indulge in this sport, or have any knowledge I would greatly appreciate it. I just want some help in figuring out what is the absolute best bike my $1400.00 can buy. Obviously if I can spend less it would be better....

Felt is probably your best bet for what you are looking for. I've known people who have ridden those and have really liked them. What I was told is they are basically Trek's, except made in Taiwan, so cost a little less. I wouldn't worry too much about the aluminum of one company vs the aluminum of another, etc...it should be a very small difference. Try to test ride a few different bikes and don't listen to the guy selling it too you telling you it fits like a glove. See which one you are most comfortable on...this is probably going to be more important than worrying about components or weight in all honesty.
Hope this helps.

My bike is an old Trek 820, it does the job for workouts.

I'm a mountain bike guy, not a roadie, so...
The guy I ride with is a huge road dude who sometimes indulges in the single track...
He's got some pretty fancy bikes, but he mostly rides this one (the Allez, in your price range) with upgraded carbon fiber forks and some other upgrades:

My bike cost 200 euros ( around 260 US ), and I use it almost every day to get to town, to go training, etc...
It gets me anywhere I want.

Use your bike to commute to work. It's the best cardio improvement you'll ever do.
I'm really happy with my Devinci Copenhagen ($900), but it's made in Montreal so it may not be available where you are.

I am doing some research on Cerevlo's soloist team series. These are really nice bikes. The website is really informative.
