another fat bastard begging for help

hey guys. Here are the stats: 5' 8", 270lbs. 35yo, 25%bf. Bench 300, can run for approx 5 min at 4.3 on treadmill before dying out (I know, fucking pathetic). I want to get to a walking around weight of 185. I'm in no rush for a wonder cure in so many months. I just can't seem to stay focused and I'd like tips from guys doin it. Hope to join MMA gym in next 6 months (don't want to have a heart attack on the mat). Any diet and training suggestions for someone planning to train in MMA and fat as fuck would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I lost close to 85-90 pounds, was 255-260, currently 160.

Steps to take:
Set REALISTIC Goals
Seek a nutrionist - Seek what foods are good for you and healthy, and what tastes you enjoy
Write down a health Journal of what you eat and how much you exercise
Burn more then you put in

Do lots and lots of cardio, lifting is good, true, but you need to do cardio because your trying to lose weight.

Former Fat Boy (Me) advice on what exercises will work if you want to lose weight:
Elliptical - Hour // Tread Mill - Walk for 40 minutes twice a day at a speed you can tolerate.. At the moment I currently walk at a 4.0 - 4.2 speed for 40 minutes on week days, and on weekends I'll do two sets of walking for 40 minutes. 40 Minutes of walking at a 4.0 speed ='s about 400 calories/70 Carbs. 1 Hour on the ellipitical doing 150 strides a minute is about 700 calories.. and at your weight you might be able to go faster .. say you can do 160 strides a minute.. I'd say you'd burn at least 750 calories in just one hour's worth of work and it's not that hard, nor stressing. Also, the hardest thing but most effective cardio exercise is the stair master, which is probably a little advanced for a beginner like yourself so you may want to stay away from that until you lose about 40 pounds?

Don't quit. Don't let others say you can't do it or your working hard. Be hard on your self, and realize that your going to have to bust your ass, you spent all that time gaining weight.. realize it make take that long to lose weight because chances are it's going to take awhile. Don't have cheat days where you eat what ever you want because eventually one cheat day a month turns into one cheat day every two weeks... then one every week.. then cheat meals every few days.. and eventually your back where your started.

Eat Protein - Tuna // Chicken breasts are both very good for you, you can eat lots of it and not gain weight. Stay away from Candy at all costs .. also stop eating cheese burgers, Frize, Pizza, ala a fat mans favorite food. Fuck the Peter Pan peanut butter and Jiff - Hello Natural Peanut Butter found in the same section as breads, bagels, and rice cakes are. O yea, rice cakes are bad to, stay away from them. Don't be afraid, eat that apple, eat the bananna, drink that water, No put the diet soda Away!!!. Don't rely on supplements, protein shakes, do it the natural way. Goodluck man, I will be waiting for you to be a FFB. Just remember, you have to eat, not eating may seem right and when you lose weight you may get excited but in the end, this just won't work and your looking for an easy way out when really you will put the pounds on real fast.

Final Tips - Stay away from cerials, breads, butters, chips, crackers, and anything with high counts of Trans and Saturated fats. Get'er done.

What sort of foods/drink does your current diet consist of? I am 6'2" and went from 250 to 183 in little over a year just by switching to diet soda. I imagine you eat fast food regularly? Thats gotta go, you will feel better as you lost the weight without those gut bombs from the burger joints. I did find out the secret to weight loss, and it's called sticking with your diet plan...and study what some of the guys in the Dieting/Conditioning Forums say...there's some great knowledge abound there.

Think of the foods you eat that you know are bad for you...and think about why they are bad. I see people eating certain things now and get sick just thinking about it.

I know where you are coming from but all i can offer are a few meager words...Good luck and stick with it.

I quit drinking soda all together (except these damn Rockstars like once a week). I don't even miss them all that much.

The Cook just laid it out pretty good....Also find other options for your favorite foods such as brown rice instead of white rice, wheat bread instead of any white, turkey bacon instead of bacon...you can still eat good foods.

Theres a thread in the Dieting Forum titled "Grocery List' that will tell you in good depth whats good to eat. Sent it to the top for you.

True...But if you have to have it - like I thought I did - the low-octane (i.e. diet) sodas are better. The taste even grows on you. All I have in my house now is water. Just take it one day at a time.

I don't think those calorie burn numbers are correct. How the hell do you burn 750 cals in an hour?

I appreciate the feedback fellas. Surprisingly enough I don't eat all that bad. I don't drink soda and I try to get at least 3 litres of water a day. My main problem is that whenever I get into a swing with training, I'll get sick or injured or my gout will kick up and everything shuts down. I'm hoping for help with my training considering my current physical condition. That'll help me get under 200lbs and best prepare me to train mma. Any suggestions, greatly appreciated. FYI my M O has always been to train heavy as possible but I'm getting older and thinking I need to try something different since I keep fucking expanding.
