Allergies and breathing through the mouth.

When doing HIIT or just jogging, I breathe through my nose because I've always been told that this is the way to breathe. The problem is, I have allergies and I end up sneezing for most of the day.

Because of this, I end up breathing through the mouth so I can get my cardio done. Does anyone else have this problem?

I can never get enough air through my nose dong HIIT either, then again you're working at such a high rate that it's a pretty normal occurrence. You should be able to job while breathing properly though. Are you saying that breathing though your nose makes you allergies worse? because your body filters the air more efficiently through the nose than the mouth so it should be a better way to breath. Ephedrine may help with your breathing and can increase your work capacity.

Yeah, breathing through my nose makes allergies worse.

The only time I have this problem is when I run and breathe through my nose. Today, I ran 5 sets of 3 minutes runs with 1 minute rest between. I finished at 1pm and have been sneezing and my eyes have been teared up ever since. This happens only when I run.

The only way I can avoid this is if I breathe through my mouth. But people tell me that I should always breathe through my nose when doing cardio but it sort of defeats the purpose in my case.

breathing through your nose is far better then mouth if you are alergic but you cannot expect you to breathe through nose while doing HIIT either

anyway, bottom line is: if you are alergic - give up jogging entirely ! Its hard I know, but that is the only way because it can get worst over the time. Are you alergic to something aviod contact with that matter as far as goes its that simple

I heared stories of people having same problem and their doctor said "take medicin and keep on" and they did and got asthma and then they got another medicin to inhale and they kept on running but how smart is it ???

so give it up if you are smart guy, there is so much you can do to improve your conditioning, try HIT instead of HIIT for example - read Arthur Jones articles about how aerobic excercise is superflous anyway, you can get great cardio using weights only if you push it to the limit...or start swiming or something, indoor...

end of thread (if you have brains)
