500-1000 pushups a day?

does anyone here do up to 500 to 1000 pushups a day. i was reading up on herschel walker and bo jackson how they used to do these. i started doing them ever day for the past week and i have no chest soreness whatsoever. I still hit up bench press twice a week. Do any of you do a routine like this

We in the army do a lot but its more like halve way up, all the way down vise versa, hold halve way down. shit like that. Department of Defense has put millions of dollars into what is the best way to build chest, tri, upper body and we have been told that yes doing more will increase ammount in 2 min but holding and putting hands in and out builds more endurance and different parts of chest.

It's pretty much MOS specific.

Certain jobs or schools require different levels of PT.

the most I have ever done in one day is near 1,000.. you lose count...so that is an estimation

I have a buddy whose got a pretty blown up chest, he says every single night he does 100 pushups along with some situps before he goes to bed. Just to me 1000 or even 500 seems kind of excessive, although I guess if its spread over the whole day...

When I was going through employment training in the Army we did 55 push ups on the hour for 8 hours each day. You definitely notice the difference in your max push ups.

One little question...

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

I'd love someone to explain to me why this would be useful. I'm all for daily GPP, which, for some, may include doing push ups almost every day. But 500-1000? It's a pointless waste of time, IMO.

When I was in S.E.R.E training with the Air Force we would do somewhere around 2,000 push-ups a day. Basically everytime that we went into or out of a building (our barracks, going to chow, taking a piss, whatever) we had to do 28 push-ups. So just to take a leak we had to do 56 push-ups. This was all on top of the PT we had to do throughout the day which was pretty brutal, plus anytime our training instructors felt like dropping us when they were bored or if someone pissed them off.

They definitely add up, doing push-ups this way which is kind of like "greasing the groove". After a while though my pecs would be so sore that I kept tiger balm slathered on me constantly, but eventually it went away. Truth be told all the push-ups turned me into a damn gorilla (all I did back then literally was eat as much as possible, PT, and sleep). Plus we got to a point where when we pissed off our instructors and they'd drop us we'd be laughing because when you're already doing around 2,000 push-ups a day doing 50 more is funny to you.
