40 yard dash , any sprints

yo whats happenin yall I got a question besides just actually doin the runs themselves, what are some good exercises or lifts to increase speed for sprints and give you a more explosive jump at the gun. Also what are some exercises that might actually slow you down , if there are any?

Agreed.

Heavy squats to increase your strength to power out of the blocks and then training the start portion of the run over and over again

Take a look at some of the Olympic caliber sprinters. They're built like brick shithouses. You need to start a full body strength program. Read the stickies in the S&P forum.

In the short term, you can find a coach and work on your form. You'd be surprised at how a couple small adjustments can make such a big difference time wise. Good luck

Bacon, you gotta be an aussie man (maybe at heart), Ive only heard "American players are built like brick shithouses" from crazy Australian coaches.

OP the S&P will really help you out. I did leg lifting and hill sprints and saw a huge improvement in jumping 'the gun'.

I'm as aussie as kid from small town Missouri can be I guess.

Sprinting is a total body exercise. Take a look at Michael Johnson. His arms get him off the line and up to speed quick and his core gets his hips into position so his legs can finish the job. Another good example is Tim Dwight (NFL). He's crazy fast and he's built like.....an outdoor latrine of the brick variety...
