Wrist wraps. What length?

I'm looking to purchase APT Black Reaper wrist wraps, what length do you guys recommend? 12", 24", 36" ? I'm thinking 24", but I have no experience with wrist wraps.

A quick search of S&P posts shows that Fatty and Lusst use 36", and Bacon and Smashius both went with 24". You might try picking your length based on your wrist size compared to theirs (or your lifts compared to theirs), but unless you're an 11 year old girl, it looks like the 12" are right out.

I've tried a buddy's 36" wraps and found them a little fiddly and overly long, much prefer 24" wraps, but then again that's just a personal preference and I know people who swear by them.

+1 for the 36".

It's all I've used, so I'm ignorant of what other wraps feel like. They are the maximum size allowed by most powerlifting federations.

I broke my right radius badly in the past and it isn't quite the same now. When doing pushups some force is transferred out through the wrist rather than distributed through to the palms. For this reason Push Presses and OHS can by painful and I was thinking wraps might help.

I can see the obvious argrument against wraps. "Strengthen your wrists Sally." Would you say they are useful?

Also, obviously guys around here don't walk around with them on all day at the gym to look like BAMFs. So what lifts do you use them for? When you near 90% 1RM only?

Thanks for your replys...

Wear them. Axially loading a wrist when it's messed up is stupid. Wraps REALLY helped my wrist out. Don't listen to people who say they are "pussy".

Wear them on stuff like OHP, OHS, anything overhead, pushups, bench, anything where you're going to be loading your wrists.

You are one of the few people who have a good reason to wear them.

Get the 24in ones. Nothing wrong with the other lengths but middle of the road is usually a good comprimise.

No one without injuries should need to use wrist wraps.

I've benched 474 in a shirt with no wraps and my wrists weren't even a little bit sore. Same with squats. Squatted 585 with no wraps and the wrists were fine.

Its like all gear.

Use it if:

1 - Not using it will comprimise safety.

2 - You are using it to gain and edge in a competition where using said gear is legal.

Juan I think you nailed it. Its only overhead lifting thats painful (or when when my wrist is bent axially). The initally explosive movement when push pressing and holding a bar overhead with a snatch grip.

I've done really shallow rack lockouts with 100lbs over my best bench before and there is no pain, so they wouldn't be necessary when benching. :Thanks NerdKing:
