What lifting means to you...

So, I came to a realization yesterday. Lifting, is a much more important aspect of my life than I ever thought possible. My lady, asked me why I would want to go through that physical pain. "What's the point in it?" she asked.

And I told her. "It's a way of constantly testing myself. In today's time there aren't many opportunities for a man to do that. I'm always able to watch myself make progress. And for me, that's important. There are times when work is slow, when I can't get anyone to return my calls. There are times when the colleagues screw something up and I have to pick up the pieces. There are times when relationships become difficult, and often feel cumbersome. Sometimes you feel like your wheels are just spinning in place and it's never going to stop. But when I get into that weight room, there's none of that. It's about me, and what I can do to improve. I know where I was last week and I know where I am now.
Basically, every time I step up to that weight... I become a better "me" than I was yesterday."

Immediately upon speaking those words, I realized that they were true.

Sorry about all the motivational-sounding BS. I'm totally not gay... Except for Lusst. So tell us (all quips and Sherdog sex jokes aside)... What does lifting mean to you?

Self improvement. Right now it's something like "hmm, I was only able to throw that 56lbs weight 25 feet. I'm going to focus even harder in the gym just to make it go 25' 6". Getting a PR, no matter how small it is, is such a spectacular feeling of accomplishment. Hitting my goal and thinking "well, now I have to lift even more next week" makes me feel great. All things regarding staying healthy aside, I just love it.

I'm 45, old enough to recognize that most likely my life is halfway over, at least.

With every rep completed, every hard set, every workout where I walk away with a soaking T-shirt and a blank mind, I smack the Grim Reaper upside the skull.

"You'll have me one day, motherfucker, but I'm not gonna make it easy."

+1. I like being alive. Lifting makes me grasp that simple truth.

Give me a bar and 1000lbs of iron and I'll die a happy man.

lifting has probably taking over me, The Iron has become my best friend, but my worst friend. Just like everything in life nothing is perfect , nothing. Everything has pros and cons, no matter what people say. One workout lifting will go great and i'll progress, get stronger, more powerfull, faster and better but then one workout we can fallout and fight and I'll get nowhere and possibly even go back sometimes. however The one thing lifting Iron does that no one or anything in this world can gaurantee is being there for you, ( sounds gay but I don't care) it's always there.

One thing for sure the pros definitly outweigh the cons by a 1000lb deadlift

I feel the same way. I'm gonna cop out on my own speech and go with this one.

Lifting is a chance to escape reality. Forget about your worries and move some weight. Nothing else matters but completing each rep of each set until you are done. No job, no school, no wife, nothing. Just you and and the iron.
So much work, yet when you are done the weight ends up right where it started, no worse for wear. You leave your gym tired and sweaty, the only remaining signs that any work has been done. But you know it. You can feel it. You accomplished what you set out to do and worked your ass off for it. You feel good mentally and physically, already waiting to return to your sanctuary to outdo yourself once again.

Plus chicks totally dig teh gunz!
