Weakness/Pain in Wrist Following Bench

I've been doing it right and banging out good weight on my bench for a couple months, usually doing 4-5 reps. I've only failed once (last set, last rep, and God only knows I tried) and had to dump my plates.

The last two weeks I've noticed a distinct pain in the left side of my right wrist following the lift. I can't feel it during the lift. The first time I lifted through it, and my wrist hurt for a week. The second time I dropped my last set, and it still hurt, but less. The third time I narrowed my grip by about an inch and a half on each side, lifted the same weight, and had no pain. But my triceps failed as soon as I went to support lifts, which is not normal for me.

I have been doing wrist exercises this entire time. My question is, do I lift a weight that my wrist can take without pain while I strengthen the wrist? Or do I get a wrist brace and keep lifting heavy? I have had no pain for the last week, but I did feel the same "warning pain" when I used a wide grip last time on my first set.

get wrist wraps and use them on your heavier sets.

Check your technique. The bar should be as close as possible to your forearm, not close to your fingers.

If the bar is close to your fingers, your wrists will bend. Which very painful when heavy weights is used. Weight close to forearm. The whole arm like a straight line perpendicular with the floor.

Same for the overhead press & push press btw: bar close to the forearm, not close to the fingers.

I had the same thing, and what helped me a lot (as was said above):

1. Use wrist wraps:

2. Do wrist exercises. Levering, wrist roller, etc...

3. Put the bar in the "Y" of your hand, so the force is transfered into your forearm, as shown in this handy and crude diagram:
