Is this a true statement regarding lifting....

"if you want to get big and strong, lift heavy. If you want to get lean and strong, lift heavy. Being big or lean is not as much dependent on how much you lift, but what you eat and how much cardio you do."

I had been lifting to get lean. LIifting light weights with alot of reps. Someone pointed out to me that light weights with high reps really isn't doing crap for me.
He suggested this 5 X 5 workout where I'm lifting as much as I can lift for 5 reps. I started it (and I like) but I had the thought that this was just going to get me bulky. To which he replied the quoted section above.

Thanks for any insight regarding if this is true or not.

Size is down to diet and cardio and manipulation of both of those aspects in your training.

Becoming big and bulky won't just happen by accident, or very quickly. The guys advice is sound.

It's very, very true. I couldn't have put it more eloquently if I tried.

Lifting heavy while dieting down helps your body retain as much lean mass as possible. Lifting heavy also creates a large metabolic disturbance, meaning you will burn more calories as your body recovers.

Abs are made in the kitchen, and legs feed the wolf.

Yes, it's true. If you are looking to get lean and strong, do the following:
1. Lift heavy
2. Add in cardio/gpp for extra calories burned
3. Make sure that you are on a calorie deficit

It's really not that difficult. Basically, make sure your calorie output is higher than what you were doing. Make sure your calorie input is less than what it was before. The increase in calorie output and decrease in calorie input = weight loss. It's hard to get into details without details from you, but that's the basic idea.

When I bulked to 205lbs, I lifted heavy. When I cut down to 170, I lifted heavy. Its true and mostly has to do with your diet.

I hope there weren't many guys in the gym as knowledgeable as you guys....
because I'm sure there would have been (and there probably was) alot of laughing while watching me do 25 reps for one set while benching.

Thanks again.
