Sounds like you and I have alot in common. I work out for free at the high school across the street from where I work (which is for a school district).
There are some coaches that workout when I'm there, but they're mostly concentrating on biceps and some shoulder press machines. There is a gym that is opening up near my house, called the "Iron House" or something like that, which sounds cool, but I'm not sure if it's going to live up to its name...that'll depend on how many power racks they have.
While I hate to pay money for something I get for free, maybe a couple visits per month won't break the bank, and allow me to broaden my horizons.
edit: I was going to take the day off and chow down on some gumbo a duy that I work with made, but after reading this I took it to the track and put in 3 miles. Needless to say, no more gumbo or naner pudding when I got back...but the run was well worth it.
