Standard and Olympic.

More idiot questions for you here,

what is the difference between the two in benches, I realise the Olympic ones are wider, but why?

Also I have a 5' bar, what bit is bigger on the 6' one.

There you go, enjoy, making a fool of my white beltageness.

Well... an olympic bar is typically about 7 feet long. a 5' or 6' standard bar sucks ass. Get an oly bar and some oly plates (the ones with 2" holes in the middle).

They are stronger, they use more standardized weights, have a higher load capacity, and are generally constructed with greater quality (depending on the manufacturer, of course). Also they all have a standard weight of 20kg ~44lbs while the 5' or 6' bars usually range from 15 to 30 lbs.

20kg ! dear God i'll be luck to add 20 kg plates to that

A problem I have with my shitty 5" bar is that my arms get in the road of the actuall weights, I take it you don't get this with an olympic bar.

LOL! Get an olympic bar and you won't have that problem anymore. They're much better quality and aren't that expensive either. Do your current "plates" have sand in them??

No at the moment I have 27.5kg on either side, there just the cast iron ones. My bench press is crap, I suppose for how long I've been doin it (6 month) it could be better. But I really do think I would benifit from a new bench and bar. The bar is far to short and and I end up with my forearms under the weights, and the bench is a cheap and nasty one, that is all awkward to lie on.

Well when I get paid next month I think an oly bench and bar will be gettin purchased. What do yous think of this one http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/...E7ECBFB95.html I don't know if that's a decent one for the money I'm not really wanting to pay more than £200 for one.

Also are the Bars on that site a decent enough make?
