Squat question

Hi all,

I use a smith machine at my gym that I strongly believe is this one:

http://us.commercial.lifefitness.com...smithmachine_1

What I want to know about it, if anyone knows offhand, is whether thwere is
a weight associated with the bar assembly during lifts. I.e. if I place a 45
lb plate on each end for a lift, am I lifting only 90 lbs., or is it made in
such a way as to make it approximate the weight of a bar also? I've taken to
using this lately, since I have no partner, and thus, no spotter at the the
gym with me. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!

no...just no.

Use a squat rack or a power cage, you don't need a spotter when you do squats.

Well I focus mainly on upper body, since my legs are worked when I walk anyway. Shouldnt Smith Machine squats be sufficient?

Most Smith Machine Bars weigh 15 lbs. So subract 30 lbs from your normal weight when doing free weight.
