Short workouts!

Heya men, what's up - I've got a question;

I've been adding real short workouts lately. For example after waking up I'll do a 3 x 12 military presses, some pushups and some side bends. then that's it. Then in the evening I'll do some pushups, a 30 min run and some shrugs..

Is this effective in any way? Just picking up the weights whenever I feel and just crancking out some small workouts?

I also have my planned days and planned workouts, of course. But I just wanted an educated answer on this .. thanks in advance good sirs.

If you want short workouts Google Dr. Tabata

Mate no offense, but that wasn't what I was asking exactly.

I already do tabata sprints.

But.. if you could just look at the post and tell me if this is in any way shape or form an acceptable way to train, 'cause I can't really be arsed to make a full 1-2 hour training session on these days.

How does the rest of your schedule look?
If it is packed you might just be overdoing it with your random stuff on the other days.

If I remember correctlly Xtrainer does some type of morningworkout involving bodyworkstuff. He will probably post here soon.

Yeah man that was what I was thinking, that when I get kind of motivated to do somthing like when I'm feeling like I'm rotting up not doing anything and do some training I am really just overloading..

In my opinion, as long as your overall workload is right, it doesn't matter how you split it up. Some studies have in fact shown superior results from doing more shorter workouts than fewer longer ones.

The biggest problem I see with that is that it might not allow you to work up to a high enough intensity for any particular lift (% of 1 RM). If you're short on time, I'd recommend the "One lift a day program":

I used this protocol for a while, and it worked very well for me.

Grandpa, you ever thought of doing some full body stuff, like maybe a few sets of Bears, or maybe sets of Turkish Get Ups, etc. ?
Might be more productive to do a single little lift (maybe 5 x 5) that works everything (including conditioning), rather than random lifts that isolate muscle groups.
