^ Thanks guys.
I like the idea of incorporating deficit deadlifts. Does standing on a single plate really add that much of a challenge to the lift? The only time I've ever tried these we stood on a single step (like from a step aerobics assembly) which was probably 3 or 4 inches high.

I felt deads off of a plate made a difference. If you have something good to stand on, you can definitely go off of something higher. I'm starting deficit deads again myself, and I was looking around the garage for something to stand on. I can't really find anything besides a plate.

Not much actually. I'll figure something out. I think my mom has an old step aerobic thing. Until then, plates will work for me. I did a cycle of quite a few months with heavy singles and deficit deads. It took my DL up 70 lbs.

Snatch grip DL standing on 2 stacked plates is good. Zercher DL is better.

Better how? Better as assistance for conventional DLs, or better as replacements for conventional DLs?
I want to improve my DL, not get rid of it! Just want to make sure we're on the same page.

Goodmornings can be a good assistance lift for deads. DB rows will be a bit easier on your lower back than BB rows if it gets fatigued. Assess your glute activation, and add work if necessary.

I share the lack of sleep issue. I simply had to cut back on my lifts. I do a primary and hit it as hard as I can, then if anything is left an assistance. If I don't feel recovered by my next scheduled lifting day, I don't or cut back. Do to the recovery issues I face, there are days that if I do lift I have to drop the resistance, reps or sets to something I can handle, I go by feel. I also had to prioritize my lifts, right now my DL is king, so I gave up some intensity on squats and use it to hit my deadlift assistance work, but then again I don't lift on a weekly schedule either.
THe deficits are gravy for improving you DL. I do a few at the end in place of scheduled singles when I can.

Assistance. The only reason I replaced conventional DLs with ZDLs in my routine right now is because I don't have enough weight to do conventionals. When I was still in college and lifting at the uni gym, I was mainly using them just as part of a warm-up, and they still dramatically helped increase power off the floor on normal DLs.
If you're page view is on 30 post per page, here's a link to my old log - John's RedNeck Log (Liftin' and maybe more)
September 3rd looks like one of the first places I tried that, although with both SG and ZDL. September 24th shows just with ZDLs and then DLs.
