I think thats a good one. I know people always telling me that they dont like doing squats because of their knees. I also think that most of the people are doing squats in the Shirley Machine anyway.

routine question:

I'm trying to work on Cardio and Weightlifting and looking to see gains in both.

should a routine be the same week in week out until you stop seein gains or can you switch workouts each week what I'm currently doing is:

week 1:
day 1: Push
d2: cardio
d3: pull
d4: cardo
d5: squat

week 2:
d1: cardio
d2: StrongLifts beginner workout A (designed for a 2 day split)
d3: cardio
d4: StrongLifts B
d5: cardio

is this too much variance?

You can do that, as long as you always try to improve. Also, take short rest breaks between sets.

Personally I would stick to just one routine on a weekly schedule and stick to it until you complete it or progress stalls. That kind of looks like workout ADD.

So what do you say to a program like Stronglifts that has 2 workouts but varies week to week (doing 3 workouts a week)?

week one: workout A; B A
week two: B, A, B

That's more like a 2x/week workout only you're doing it 3x instead of 2x.

As opposed to what you posted, which is more along the lines of two completely different routines intertwined.

Week on: A B C
Week two: D E

A, B, A
B, A, B

was the recomendation from StrongLifts. So maybe that's a flaw in that program?

I think it is fine, because no matter the frequency of training in the week all the lifting days are based on same structure/methodology. Combining a push/pull/squat one week with full body the next is a little too much variance for me. If you want to do 3 lifting days a week one week, and two the next, just keep alternating days with the Stronglifts:

Say

Week 1
A,B

Week 2
A,B,A

and so on. You only have two seperate workouts to track in this format, rather than 5 in your original idea, so it makes progression much simpler and easier to track.
