RDL's a good substitute for regular deadlifts?

long story short, i sustained an injury from judo, and i won't be able to deadlift for a little bit (maybe 2 weeks), but the trainer said that i could do romanian deadlifts. i guess the title pretty much sums up this thread up. and for reference, i'm doing the pull/press/squat 3 day split routine. thanks in advance for the help.

Can't do regular, but can do stiff legged....did you hurt your ankle / knee? I'm confused...but,

Try doing Rack pulls, and RDL if you can...the rdl's I use mainly for Light lower back, and hamstring. Not back as a primary move.

What did you do that prevents you from deadlifting, but at the same time allows you to RDL?

Sure it can be a substitue. Its still works the same prime movers, just doesn't get the quads involved.

As long as you're picking up a heavy weight from the floor i'm cool with it

well lol of course a deadlift variation is going to be an excellent substitution. many people cycle deadlift varieties anyways, like 4 weeks SLDL's, then 4 weeks RDL's, then 4 weeks tradtional, then 4 weeks sumo.

I'm fascinated, what the fuck have you injured that you can't dead from the floor but can do RDLs safely?

RDLs are great but they're using pretty much all the same muscles and loading the same joints.

I don't understand why you can do RDL's but not regular deads? Are you sure your trainer doesn't think you're gonna be doing 3x20 with 20 lb dumbells or something? RDL's can be a good substitute for deads, they just put more stress on the hamstrings
