Chalk Alternative

My gym doesn't allow it... too messy, I suppose. What else works well?

A kick to the fucking testicles of the owner of the gym, and then using chalk for lifting. Works like a fucking charm.

I should probably contribute something... There's stuff called liquid chalk that you rub on your hands, but I have no experience with it whatsoever. try google, there are some videos of it too.

I hear ya and totally agree. It's a Powerhouse, though, and I don't think the chalk ban is all that uncommon in commercial gyms. I might just use chalk, anyhow. I'm pretty good friends w/ the guy that's working the hours I go there, so I doubt he'd say anything. I'll check out the liquid chalk, too. It sounds delicious.

No chalk allowed? I'd say use sawdust or woodchips.

If you clean it up when you're done, I really don't see what they can do about it.

Have you tried the ever popular "it's not chalk, it's calcium carbonate?"

When they ban that add food coloring and claim it's a confection so it's okay.

Hmmmm... lots of good ideas. Maybe I'll cycle through all of them. I actually just ordered a few bottles of the liquid chalk, so we'll see how that goes. It's a grip aid and a sanitizer, so if the bar falls, at least there won't any bacteria breeding on my paws.

Actually I think you'll find that lifting chalk is magnesium carbonate.

Something that really pissed me off over the last two days was finding out that neither of the half decent sports shops in my area sell chalk (one guy tried to sell me straps and lifting gloves, I think he thought I was crazy when I told him they were only for use by metros and girls). Looks like I'm going to have to get the stuff off a rock climbing gear website.

do you have an outdoor store by you? i picked up a nice sized bag of chalk for about 3 bucks at a local outdoor shop.

and to the original poster, my gym is the same way, but i just clean the equipment off when i'm done. i only use it for plate-pinching, though, so it's not really tough clean up.
