sand weights are surprisngly cheap, the hardest part about buying your own home gym is space and the cost of buying enough plates
The hardest part for me is trying to find used bumper plates. I can't afford new ones and no one sells them used that I can find. Craigslist has hooked me up for everything but bumper plates. I'm concidering doing what other S&P'ers have done and put tires on the bar.

holy crap did you know that this thread has been mentioned on stronglifts.com?
Holy crap did you know that stronglifts is just a blog which simply repeats information that can be easily found around the web and is run by a guy who is NOT strong (and never has been) for the sole purpose of making money off of add revenue?
I have a membership at PF and it must be different then the regular ones. There are plenty of strong people there and the staff doesn't mess with anyone that I can see. It is pretty shitty over all, but it's cheap so I will lift there until I get kicked out.
I do see a lot of quarter squatters, but when I approach the curlers in the power rack they always let me squat and go somewhere else to curl.
Actually, the last time I was there, Friday, when I wanted to squat there was a pretty strong guy setting up to curl in the power rack (there is no squat rack.) When I asked him if he was going to squat and could I work in, he said he was just going to curl and he could go elsewhere.

*reads Starting Strength, Practical Programming, and The Strongest Shall Survive. Makes website to give training info*
They just opened a Planet Fitness in my area. According to the mail insert, I can join for only $10 a month with a one time start up fee of $49. What a bargain!

That's why I signed up. It's cheap and close to home. It's hard to beat even if it's a pretty crappy place.
