What would you guys get? i'm thinking: (in order of importance)

1. good amount of plates, 45 lb olympic barbell (or two)
2. bumper plates for deadlifting/cleans
3. squat cage
4. rubber mats
5. weight bench
6. ???

can't think of what i'm missing

what else would you guys include, and for what reason would you include them?

like my workouts would mostly be focused around deadlifting/squatting/cleaning/benching so i'm not interested in dumbbells etc.

i'd also might include a dip/pullup rack.
How much would this normally cost?

Depends what level of quality you buy, you can spend a ridiculous amount on a barbell and weights if you buy olympic/world competition standard sets (Eleiko are the big one - Bloody hell, how much? ) But if you buy a decent rack and bench they should cost you £3-400 together and a bar and weights can come in at about £1-300 for semi-decent sets.

yeah i'm definitely gonna look for a power rack, the ability to use it also as a pullup station and dragging the bench over for benchpress will be really nice - i already built myself a dip rack with some heavy pipes on a wood stand so i'm set with that

buying smartly (and used) i think i can get everything i need for around $500... luckily i live in a big city so there's a constant stream of people selling their old free weights on craigslist

thanks for the advice so far, i will probably look for some used dumbbells later on, and the grip equipment. pardon my ignorance, but what does CoC stand for?

CoC stands for Captains of Crush ( www.ironmind.com ) which is a type of gripper used to be a standard of grip strength. Theres many variations of their grippers, a training gripper, and numbers 1-4, 1 being the easiest to close, 4 being the hardest. Only a few people have ever closed the #4 I think.

Anyway, yea that's going to be a nice setup. I have a power rack with an adjustable bench that does flat, incline, and decline that I just roll into the rack to bench. If you want dumbells, I would suggest getting two olympic size adjustable dumbell bars. It works just like a barbell, but is the size of a dumbell. Some people don't like them, but I find it to be a very cheap and efficient alternative to buying large amounts of dumbells.

Yup, CoCs the mutt's nuts of grippers. Tell someone who trains grip that you can shut a #2 and they'll instantly know exactly how strong you are. They are THE standard when it comes to gripping strength, shut the #3 under certification conditions and they put you on a list.

The pull-up bar should be included on the power rack.

To the OP: funny you made this thread, because I have been playing around with the thought of creating my own home gym.

+1 for the heavy bag.
