Making clubbells

ok, so I was going to make a pair of 25 lb clubbells... well club sticks really. I was all set too, got my lead today (like 100 lbs for free from a tire shop! SWEET!) and I was going to buy the pipe tomorrow. here was the plan

- get a length of 2" wide galvanized pipe and two encaps for each CB. Put on one cap and fill the pipe with 25 lbs in lead weights. Odds are, it won't fit since the lead won't be a solid mass and too much space will be lost to gaps between weights. To remedy this, i was going to place a torch at the bottom of the pipe (filling it vertically) to melt the lead into a mass at one end and continue to fill it as space becomes available, and stop as soon as all the weight was in it and before it ALL melted into a mass. This would both keep it from being a sledge (with all the weight at the end) and from being just a heavy stick.

Then I saw this and now I'm thinking I may want to use THAT method with a 2" galvanized pipe for a handle.

So S&Pers, I want to know what you think I should do. All I really want to use it for are swipes and mills (the two movements involved in the CB challenge), but I'm really looking for what you think would be the most versatile design. I'm leaning towards the new design... but what am I going to do with all this lead? Make a bruiser I guess.

I can't see the pictures on that website, so my only comment is to be careful with that lead. Especially if you are going to do any melting or anything, fumes could be a bitch/toxic.

Yeah, I'll be doing it outside if I do it at all.

That looks like a sweet idea. What are you going to do with the shot now?

It's not shot, it's tire weights. but still, I dunno. Once I get some more proficiency with my some 25 lb CB's maybe I'll mix it in the concrete and make a bruiser. I'll think of something. One thing about making your own equipment, you always have a use for scrap lead. Who knows, maybe I'll make some small atlas stones and turn them into KB's. Then again, maybe I'll just wait for the next fad and use it on that.

IMO the second idea seems to be alot easier way to get a good weight distribution, melting the lead straight into the pipe would be very difficult, if you wanted to avoid the sledge effect. I like the idea of using the ****l pipe instead of wood like the article, i could picture the wood breaking after some use.

Good luck with either of the options you are talking about, the pics wouldn't come up on the link you gave!

I tried to have a ****l clubbell made for me but the weight distribution was wrong and then I had some wooden ones made up! I prefer the wooden clubs and I will be having some more made up but they will be more like the traditional indian clubs.

Here is a pic of the clubs I had made for me. They cost me about $50 to have made but some of the labour was free!
