The OH Press and the new Challenge Thread
I didn't want to clutter up the Challenge thread with this, so it gets it's own thread here...

I'm going to ask that we either separate the strict OH press out from the push press, or eliminate one entirely and rename the challenge. I can't imagine that there's much of anybody who won't have a higher max on the push press than the strict, and from the looks of the entries thus far, all the "OH press" entries have been push presses. I know it sounds kind of nit-picky, but if we want the strict OH press to be one of the challenges, I think we're going to have to separate them out from the push press for anyone to put their numbers out there.

Nah, if you want to handicap yourself by sticking to strict press, then so be it. The reason we allow either is because on a strict press, many people will use leg drive without even realizing it. So I vote that if you want to use your strict press as an entry, it's on you, but it remains valid in the competition.

The rule stipulates that the overhead press has to be standing, making it a Standing Overhead Press SOHP.

I actually agree with the op. We should be testing both Strict SOHP and Push Press.
Then we can see what kind of boost we are getting out of the leg drive.
I know my numbers.
235 - 285.
So I get 50 out of leg drive. Would be interesting to see what other people were getting.

Me too.
One of the main reasons for having such a challenge is to compare, and seeing each person's weight difference between the two would be interesting.

I thought about it, but then we're putting too much emphasis on pressing strength, I wanted the challenge to be an overall strength and fitness test, two pressing events would just skew it a little much (especially with bent press already in there).
BTW my push press is 91KGs my strict is 85KGs, so I'm only getting 6Kgs out of my leg drive. Guess I need to practice my overhead press form more.

I don't have a problem with keeping the number of lifts the same, I was just saying that we might want to call it a push press entry, because that's what people are entering. No sense it calling it one of two different lifts when everyone's going to enter the one lift instead of the other each time.
I wouldn't mind having a separete strict OH press entry, mind you. It'd give those of us with weak, puny legs an area we're more competitive in.
