O/T: What Robbie Lawler said on The Beatdown

On the beatdown this week TJ DeSantis had Robbie Lawler on the show and he mentioned he didn't do much weight lifting anymore, one of the reasons he cited was that with lifting his muscles filled with blood quickly and kept him from moving as fast and made him tired.

I was just wondering if anyone has read anything or experienced a feeling of sluggishness with increased vascularity from lifting? Seems more like Lawler had more of a issue with conditioning than weight training, and that not lifting before his ICON fight let him focus more on the conditioning aspect.

From the routines I've seen from militech fighters (hughes, ace, sylvia), they seem to be bbing based. So maybe he should try to do more functional training.

increasing rest periods cuts down on the blood flow into the muscle. I never get "pumps" when im doing 5x5.

What the fuck is this "Beatdown" show? I've heard it referenced the past few weeks, and all the threads about it are stupid as fuck.

I would have thought blood getting to areas of the body that are in use fast would have been a good thing, and that his sluggishness would actually be caused by the blood not getting pumped fast enough.

I think we read into these things a little too much. Most fighters aren't the most knowledgeable when it comes to physiology. He has his reasons for why he does things the way he does even though they might not make sense to us, it's not his fault.

I agree. Fighters don't seem very knowledgable of workout programs, either.

Example: I got my a** beat last night at sparring by an extremely fit cop, and my a** beat by an out of shape college student. Their punchs, kicks, knees, etc hurt the same, The reason: They have more experience, better technique, and have been training longer. Fighters are great because they are great fighters, not necessarily because they have the latest and greatest workout routine.

That doesn't really make sense. I think in general currently in fighting there are alot of fighter who are pro despite their strength training than fighters there because of their strength training.
Skills and conditioning are alot more important than their weight programs.
