Anyway, Clint07 and Urban both hit it. There are some decent bag routines in the Stand Up forum but also like Urban said... You need to be taught how to correctly strike. Join a gym and take some classes... the classes alone will get you started with many of the physical goals you want. Punching the bag with no skills will develop a lot of bad habits (which will be harder to break later on) and maybe even some sore wrists.

Threadstarter - If you want to hit the heavy bag take lessons, get the Bas Rutten cds, and most importantly
get yourself some handwraps and learn to use them, otherwise you run the risk of fucking up your wrists and hands.
