Icon3 Motivation.. Serious/Long read.

Ok, serious topic here. My main problem with lifting is motivation. I'm sitting in the office typing this, thinking about when I get home tonight how tired I'm going to be.

I'll give a little bit of background. I'm 19 and home from college for the summer. I work in Manhattan, NY and live in Brooklyn. I have to wake up each morning around 7:00AM and take an Express bus around 8:00AM which takes about 30-40 minutes to get down to Wall St.

From then on, I usually get breakfast and get into the office around 9:00AM. I take my one hour lunch break around 1:00PM and then work until 6:00-6:30PM. By the time I get home, 7:00PM is creeping up and I'm already beginning to feel wiped. I fit in dinner around the time I get home after I change out of my work clothes.

By now its about 8:00PM and I haven't even sat down yet besides to eat dinner. I hardly watch TV anymore either lol, which I think is a good thing. I get all my clothes ready and my bag and MP3 player and all and head over to the gym around 8:15PM.

Now my workouts are pretty long, I'd say about an hour workout and then 10-15 minute sauna and 5 minute shower. So basically I get back home at around 9:00-9:30PM. At this point I'm completely drained and I know I have to get sleep in to wake up again at 7:00AM.

But during work I sit back and think about how I'd have 4 hours to do whatever, watch TV, go out, lounge around, read something, bla bla bla. I guess we have to make these choices. I'm wondering about how other people motivate themselves to constantly go to the gym and keep a pace? It's slowly grinding away at me.

I want to thank everyone in advance to any responses to this thread as I appreciate it wholly.

I see what your problem is... you've got sand in your vagina. The way I see it, you want it or you don't. If you want to be just another pathetic average schmuck out there in the world, then fucking quit. If not, wipe out the sand, show some fucking balls, and man up. Quit being a dramatic, little bitch blowing everything out of proportion.

You work, boo fucking hoo... what you don't have days off? you go to the gym every day? an HOUR is a long workout for you? If you can't spare three hours a week to improve yourself physically you're beyond the aid of anyone here. Fuck you and your whole "pity me" mentality. Show some sack and quit crying.

It sounds like your routine sucks, your nutrition habbits suck, and your mentality sucks... So basically you aint got shit, and you're not willing to put forth any effort to improve the situation. ok, whatever.

My current routine is four days a week.

My nutrition/eating habits are OK. I have a lot of stuff for breakfast usually (Oatmeal, yogurt, egg whites, sausage, ham, toast, fruits (banana, apple)). For lunch I usually have chicken cutlet or grilled chicken with rice and veggies and for dinner I eat any kind of meat I can.

I can see how an hour isn't long enough but right now I'm doing a four day split type routine where I have a main workout and then 2-3 supplemental workouts everyday. The four main workouts are..

Deadlift
Bench
Squat
Overhead Press

So four days a week is too much for you? Seriously, suck it up and quit whining.

and I wasn't saying an hour isn't long enough, just that it's not a long workout.

Somebody back me up on this... he's making a mountain out of a Molehill isn't he? Curtain's just looking for a reason to quit, looking for somebody to rationalize his crybaby tendencies and say how hard he has it. Well fuck that noise, get back in the fucking gym!

Raised in Queens, recently moved to BK.

Also, I never said I was going to quit, I'm far from it. Never did I post in my original statement that I had an anxiety to quit or that I was thinking about. Maybe I should switch up my routine or the days that I go to mix things up a little bit.

As for the sauna thing, I just douse water on the rocks as soon as I get in and keep going every two to three minutes to keep it piping hot for about 10-15 minutes.

You bring up a good point. I think about that a lot, I always read my friend's away messages about how they are either..

a. at the beach
b. drinking
c. sleeping
d. etc

and I feel like I'm missing out, but I know I'm doing the right thing, getting out there and doing something not being lazy so I'm not too worried about that. I gotta save for college because 42,000$ a year is an insane amount so every bit of work I can get in I do.

I think I'm going to have to get my priorities straigh and really focus on staying tough, switching up my routine a little bit and getting more sleep.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Why not go to the gym directly from work? Stop thinking about how tired you're going to be, and instead concentrate on what a man-bastard you could be if you go and do some deadlifts. You can cut back to training three days, or even two, if you play your cards right. It's only a few months until you go back to college, why not use the time wisely and man the fuck up?

Or, wake up earlier, get the gym action in before work, and the rest of the day will be a ****bolically enhanced joy to meet with.

I've heard that saunas immediately after training can be detrimental to progress (I think I read it in Supertraining).
