Lifting outside in the cold

Any benifits or issues about lifting outside during the winter? I just got a Olympic weight set..but I have to keep it outside...it's on a backyard deck that has a roof so it won't get snowed on. So I will be lifting in cold for the winter. Thoughts?

Buy a space heater so your hands don't freeze. Other than that rock on.

You won't have to worry about hitting your pecker on Oly lifts or deadlifts.

I lift in an unheated shed/garage. It's an old shed/garage, so it doesn't have any insulation at all. Basically, it's two by fours and there are some cracks in between. Last year, I lifted when it was below zero and windy as shit. I was actually doing pullups outside as well.

Here is how I handled it. I wore three pairs of pants. I had long johns, a thin pair of sweatpants, and a large pair of sweatpants. I would typically wear a regular shirt, a thermal, and a sweatshirt. I wore thick winter socks and a sockhat. I had to lift with gloves most of the winter, but I would take them off for 1RM attempts. The bar was fucking cold. I warmed up by jumping rope. I would pace in between sets and keep moving.

Reading the above paragraph, it makes it sound horrible, but it's not so bad. By the end of the workout, I was sweating pretty good. I remember shedding some of the layers in workouts. I never skipped a day due to the cold, and I specifically remember lifting the coldest day of last winter. The cold air can give you some ridiculous adrenaline rushes, and I saw some great gains.

Good luck!

I can't picture working out when freezing cold. (Body, not outside temp)
