Icon4 Lift/Fight/Compete for Charity

Some of you may be familiar with the website I started last November. Many of you are members already. If you have never checked it out, I encourage you to do so.

www.SaintWilhelms.org

Essentially, we are an internet strength society. The idea was to bring together a community of athletes that use strength in a variety of applications and get them to record videos under one unified name. You can learn a great deal more about it when you visit the site.

From the beginning, I said that this was not a money-making endeavour. If ever it became profitable, I would decide then how best to use the money that came in.

A couple members suggested that we use profits to help out charities, and two weeks ago, we decided to make it official.

Profits made through this club will be donated each year. For 2007, we are going to give to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America in honor of our S&P brother, graedy. In future years, we will select a number of charities somehow related to what we do or who we are and hold a members’ vote to select which organization we will be giving to.

I’m writing this message because I know there are a lot of lifters, fighters and athletes on this board, and I would love to get anyone who trains with a purpose involved. A member’s shirt is a mere $15 for those in the U.S. and $21 if you’re outside the U.S. and you’d be joining with the knowledge that your payment is going towards a worthwhile cause.

Furthermore, I’d bet a large percentage of our members would tell you that belonging to The Church has helped with their own progress, as well. There’s something about aiming for a goal that you know will be video taped that seems to bring out the best in us.

---------------------------------

My hope is that we get enough members posting great videos to help grow our club large enough to make some halfway decent donations.

The site is fairly simple in its current state, consisting of some basic info, video links, a small forum and a page of lifting “Saints”. I’m eager to enhance content as our club evolves, however. For one, I’d love to create an Articles section where we can host technical or motivational pieces written by our members. Ideas are always welcome, too, as I do not want sole ownership of the site. Yes, I’m taking care of the logistics, but I want this to belong to our membership as a whole.

Thanks for reading,
fatty

Plus one. I train better when I have goals to reach.

Oddly enough, I over the last 3-4 weeks I have only eaten a little more than normal, far from the metric ton of food you would think I needed to gain weight. I think this high volume strength endurance shit really helps put on some weight, which is no good if I ever want to get bw x 20 on the OHSq. Every time I gain a pound I think "there's another 20 lbs of volume I gotta lift."

My diet has gotten simple enough:
- More than 1 serving of spinach every day
- More than 1 serving of cruciferous vegetables every day
- more 1 cup of yogurt every day
- 5g of creatine every day
- relatively lean protein (85% or leaner) with every meal.

and yet here I am, in the middle of a weight gaining epidemic.

+ Dos. I've stacked weight on my deadlift working for a church video.

Fatty, I really liked the idea of having a profile page for each member, maybe that they could add to themselves? The idea of having members mentor others towards their goals was also a good one in my opinion.

I'll admit that one of my motivational factors for getting my numbers up is so I can one day get a Wilhelm shirt and post a vid of some feat of strength. I've got a ways to go but it will happen one day.
