Just read a deadlifting article....have a question

I just read this article on T-Nation and although it was things i already knew, i have a question about the 3rd point:

The 4 Laws of Safe Deadlifting

1) Never, ever, let the lower back round at any time during the movement. The lower back should be arched to minimize injury risk and maximize force transfer between the upper and lower body.

2) Think 'beach position.' You know, when you strut your stuff on the beach to impress others. Shoulders are pulled back, chest held high, abs tight. That's how you should perform a deadlift!

3) Do not use a mixed grip (one hand supinated, one hand pronated). When you're lifting for record weights, you don't have much choice. When you're deadlifting to improve your body, you want to avoid any chance of creating imbalances.

4) Don't hyperextend the neck. You shouldn't be looking down, but hyperextending the neck is no better because it can cause neck injuries. Try to keep the spine neutral, or slightly extended, at the neck.

I personally never use deadlifts as an esthetic exersize. I never lift for more than 6 reps on deadlifts. I always use a staggered grip so am i really creating imbalances? I personally think think that since the arms are pretty much only used for holding the bar on a pull, they shouldnt create any significant imblances. I cant use hook grips with the weight i pull so the only option would be strapping up...but i dont want to weaken my grip (or look like an idiot)
Any comments?

Are you pulling > 600lbs? If not hook grip will work.

Would you mind linking to the article?

Suggestions:

Alternate your grip (pronated/supinated vs. supinated/pronated) every other set.

Don't go to T-Nation articles for lifting advice.

A lot of their new stuff is questionable, but there's a lot of good stuff in the archives.

OT: Bas where'd you get your avatar?

ah, i read that previous thread and i do have some back issues. Im gunna try lowering the weight SLIGHTLY and try hook grips for a bit...build up my grip and then only use OU for max attempts......but i cant switch grip to OU on the opposite hands....it just doesnt do it for me.

as for my avatar, people love it!....if you want, i can link you to the website (if i can find it again)

and as for T-nation being crap?....i disagree. Honestly, dont just say something is crap because people on this site sy it is and you wanna follow the crowd....there are SO MANY followers on this site...its sad.
T-nation has awesome writiers and great articles. if you dont agree, read eric cresseys article on different uses for the smith machine and watch your hip mobility go through the roof!

T-nation can be good

I typically use double OH grip until I can no longer hold the bar then I switch to O/U and I try to switch hands as well (typically within a set of 5)

Bacon is a follower.

As for the AV comment:

I enjoy the female form as much as the next guy, but I fail to see the logic in allowing a still shot from a porno as an AV on a non-adult site. Bas_Fan has had that as his av for a long time and apparently it complies with the rules, but I can't understand how. The same can be said for SixTwoSix's av. He's a fucking moron though and will be banned before long.

Anyway, it's just my opinion.
