Good I was starting to get worried that you were going to build it too big (doubted that) or that I was losing it.

Didn't work on the cage due to other obligations. For those interested, The exact measurements of the cage will be 82" High, 42" deep (foot print is larger than cage enclosure by 6") and 48" wide.
Should get a lot done this weekend.

Is your base going to extend forwards further than your uprights? Otherwise I'd be worried about overbalancing when you do pullups as the bar is pretty close to the front.

Lookin' good!
Harbor Freight is the shiz. I use it for all the stuff I know I'm only going to use periodically... concrete mixer, brick saw, etc., plus all the nonelectrical workshop neccessities, vices and clamps and such. I was actually looking at their welders a while back, but never picked one up. Now that I know yours has served you well, I may just have to get one, especially since I won't be welding nearly as much as you.

Clay,
The footprint (base) of the cage will extend about 4 inches forward of the front uprights, and two inches aft of the back uprights. I posted that earlier, but It probably wasn't very clear. That's a good observation though.
Fatty,
Most of my hand tools are Snap-on. i bought them back in my aircraft maintenance days. But as far a high-use power tools and other neccessities, Harbor Freight has served me well. Their shit is so cheap that it's more cost effective to just buy a new one when it breaks than to pony up the dough for a top-shelf model. I bought my RIGID grinder there and I've had it for 3 years. I use it more than my welder.

Here's thought for a thickbar pullup bar solution, weld a bracket that's this shape and at least 4 inches wide so the v portion sticks up just above your rack.

now you can set whatever width bar you want in there, totally changeable, won't roll off the top or move around (may spin a bit) and fun for the whole family.

I cuss Barbara Striesand on a daily basis, whether or not I set my hand on fire.
