you definitely have to take a deep breath as you elevate your traps/shoulders/the bar and let the air out as you lower--when doing higher reps you really have to control the timing and coordination of your breathing-I did not cover it in the initial post as its one of those things you sort of have to practice and work out for yourself.

For another painful and result producing variation of the Hise Shrug, try the overhead shrug-take a light barbell (very light my iron friends, start with 65-75lbs at the very most) and pus the weight overhead to full lockout-then simply shrug your traps/shoulders up and down-try to hold the top position for a 3-5 count ( 1-2 seconds) high reps, 15-20. I would advise doing them in front of a mirror so you can monitor your form and technique. the real key to this one is full range of motion and contraction.

Hmmm that overhead shrug sounds a little more do-able to me personally compared to the Hise Shurg. I'll give that a whirl on Wednesday.
