Help shut up my training partner

So the guy I lift with has a Masters in Electrical Engineering...so naturally he thinks he knows everything about everything.

He tells me I squat too low and how it's going to hurt my knees as well as how to tone up your muscles etc etc.

Well the other day it was my Deadlift day, after deads I wanted to do the Boring But Big with BOR as well as hypers and pullups. Well he got done with his workout in about 40 minutes and came up to me and said O.K. lets go. I wasn't done with my pullups or hypers yet so I said hang on. Well then I get the speech about how anything over 40 minutes is actually doing more harm than good and then went on a little speech about how professional powerlifters will workout for 40 minutes then take a few hour break then go back and lift again.

With so much fail in what he tells me I was wondering if you guys could tell me a proper response to the 40 min workout comment, I would appreciate something that is science based because of his "I'm an engineer" mentality.

I plan to keep bumping this thread with new crap that he comes up with and asking your advice/responses.

Thanks.

Find a new training partner or a good pair of earbud headphones.

lol I wish it were that easy, I car pool with him to work and he has given me a free couch and free really nice miter saw...and he might let me use her separate garage as a gym when I buy a power rack

I don't want to burn any bridges with "powerful" people you know

I would just ignore him. Those type people it is damn near impossible to convince they are wrong and not worth the time or effort to try to do so.

I do know i've read/heard something about how after you workout for an hour your test level start to drop dramatically(Though they raise dramatically when you start). Dunno how much truth there is to it or if it matters.

Ild say find a new training partner but since u dont wanna,
ild say try and educate him about it and make him read some things then maybe he will understand abit more.

Fuck him, some friends are just worthless when it comes to anything but having fun.

I have my experiences with shitty lifting partners.

If you can't leave him find a third partner.

Thats part of the problem though, he's read the wrong things I just need to figure out how to prove him wrong

I mean I've seen a few Wendler interviews where he says he doesn't care about time and you go "as long as it takes to get everything done."

I was just curious what you guys have to say about the 40 min thing, for starters I'm sure I'll raise a new topic for every day he says something epic.

EDIT.

It's bull, a bunch of professionals train way longer, actually I doubt there are many lifters who only train 40 minutes. Some oly lifters might but they train multiple times a day.

Arnold used to train 4-6 hours a day.
