Hi -- You should start by reading the FAQ, which is a sticky at the top of the main page. It will tell you the basic information you should know. If you have specific questions after that, post 'em.
Good luck with your training.

legs and core strength really help with your striking, but technique and practice are still the best overall, good luck in your training.

Technique is a huge, huge part of striking power. Go to class, make a sincere effort, listen to your coach, try diligently to correct any mistakes you're making.
The one thing I'll say about weight training is, I would do woodchoppers (use a cable tower), high-rep/low weight calf raises and neck training, on top of the 5x5.
Reasons: The woodchoppers will develop your rotational strength for punching and kicking, the calf raises will build endurance so you don't go flat-footed, and the neckwork will enhance your ability to take a punch to the head/face.

Ugh, flak got here before me.
Punching power = get stronger, while improving/refining your technique.

I should have clarified -- I would do the exercise high-to-low, low-to-high and horizontal, aka middle-to-middle.

Be careful with how much weight you gain. Your conditioning will take a big hit if you put on too much too fast.
