Gvt

I completed the bill star 5x5 earlier this year. I maxed out on my lifts and had an 865 total (this was in May). I screwed around for a little while doing some olympic lifts, no solid plan, then decided to do another 5x5. After I finish this 5x5 I think I'm going to try some GVT. My goal is to gain about 10 pounds. I figure some higher rep training will also be a nice change of pace for a few weeks. Anyone have any experience with it? I'm thinking I'll probably do a 3 day pull/push/squat split. I'm not sure if I should do 10x10 with the big three or something else. Anyone thats done this before have any advice?

After the GVT I think I may try the westside method, although I don't really want to do good mornings for my ME days. I guess I've got some time to figure that one out. My goal for this year is to have a 1,000 pound total. I know thats alot to gain with less then 6 months left, but oh well.

I think the concensus is that GVT is too much volume, there are other mass schemes that work better.

I have no experience with GVT, but I can tell you right now if your goal is to put pounds on your total 10x10 is probably not going to be the best way to go.

As far as gaining weight, just eat more and lift heavy and that will take care of itself.

These acronyms kill me sometimes. GVT = German Volume Training?

I know I've been promoting this workout a lot lately, but you may want to try the Ed Coan Peaking Cycle. I was looking to do higher reps for a bit, but then return to low rep again. I believe it's designed for bench press, but I'm actually using it for squats, deadlifts, and power cleans as well. Here is the link: Powerlifting Heads-Up Ec Coan Peaking Cycle Calculator
On the Coan cycle, I do assistant lifts at lower rep/higher weight when I am on the first weeks doing high rep. For example, if I'm on week 1 doing Bench Press, I'll do SOHP at 3 reps at high weight. Towards the end such as week 12, I'd do SOHP at 8-10 reps while doing bench at 2 reps.
As far as the German Volume Training, I'd be worried about starting it then realizing it's too much then being back to square 1. From what I read on German Volume Training, it seemed like way too much volume and would be hard to realistically fit in many people's schedule.

Check out the "T3 Program" link in the "Lessons of Keith Wassung" sticky. I think I'm going to check this out when I stop gaining on WSFSB.
