The heavy squat and dl take such a toll on the pc that I personally feel its crucial that big lifters either juice it up or figure other ways to work heavy squat and dl in the same week. I think this guy has a great plan. I think its great because the squat and dl already work many of the same muscles. I believe doing both in the same day will allow for more recovery time since hes only doing these 1xper week. He can beat the shit outa himself on this day and have his workout done in around an hour. He then has all week to recover. I would alternate doing dl first one week than doing squat first next week. Great plan!

You know that Andy Bolton is one of the best superheavy poerlifters in the world today? Current WR-holder in the deadlift.
Wonder if thats really his routine.

What works for him might not work for you. the best way to get bigger and stronger is to get to know your body over the years of training. I often see a lot of lifters following other peoples routine, sure its good if youre a bit new to lifting but with time and experience you should design a routine that suits your needs/weak areas

If you plan on doing them on the same day... i'd be sure to take around 20 minutes in between squats and deadlifts

Interesting read barra, thanks for that.

I, for one, don't think I could stomache pounding out some DL after doing a set of heavy ATG squats. Plus, I just don't have the time.

i always do my rack deadlifts after my squats on a monday and then i do front squats or rack squats after my deadlifts.

i find im to zapped to do rack deadlifts after normal deadlifts so i spread it over the week.
seems to work for me.

LOTS of people do them on the same day. Just becuase you do them on the same day doesnt mean you have to go max effort on both of them. Plus you can do other variations of the lifts. Like go heavy deadlifts, then 3x6-8 front squats. Or heavy back squats and 3sets of deads standing on a plate for a litlte higher reps or RDL. Or a million other variations.

In your bill star 5x5 routine the second day you squat and deadlift in the same day, no?
