College lifting

I am making this thread in hopes of there being someone in this forum who attends Umass Amherst. I leave for school sunday and am in deseperate need of a lifting partner. It is possible for me to lift solo but personally I would prefer to have a spotter as a hate to do things such as benching/nose breakers etc out of the power rack. So any luck?

I thought Camby shut that school down. Good luck.

BTW, you get a spot for nose breakers/skull crushers?

I've never had a lifting partner and I've never had a problem finidng spots. Just find somebody who doesn't look like a total tool and ask them for a spot. Sometimes you'll get a jackass who thinks a spot means helping you with very single rep, but usually it isnt a problem.

Regardless, if you do get a lifting partner, choose wisely. Make sure that you both have similar goals, schedules, and determination. A lot of times I see a lifting partner holding someone back because they're too busy talking about some bullshit frat party to lift hard.

Ya, not so much for risk of breaking my face but to hold in my elbows to get an overall better lift.

As far as what ive been taught it is considered proper form for the exercise to have your forearms and points of the elbows parallel to one another while doing nosebreakers.

Seriously, you don't need a spotter to keep your elbows parallel. In fact, you're probably better off without a spotter because you'll be forced to focus on stabilizing the weight by yourself.

First of all, you don't need a spotter to keep your elbows parallel. In fact, you're probably better off without a spotter because you'll be forced to focus on stabilizing the weight by yourself.

Second of all, if one of your primary concerns is skull crushers, then you need to reevaluate your weightlifting priorities. To be honest, the bench press is the only "essential" exercise that requires a spotter.

I use a powerlifting program and to be honest I can lift more and can lift better with a spotter. Not because of the spotter helping but because of the reassurance that you wont be dropping your %85 max lift on your head or torso. Its just one less thing you have to worry about.

Also, a good lifting partner helps to keep me motivated and gives me someone to compete against in lifts other than myself.

And skull crushers are not my primary concern. That was just one example.
