Can too much low rep training be detrimental to body???

I think that the best way to build functional hypertrophy for sport is by using low reps, in the 3-7 range, with high volume and low rest and compound movements. However, is too much training with low reps too hard on the CNS, and the joints??? Even though they are not optimal for strength and power, is a fair amount of lifting in the 8+ rep range necessary to prevent overtraining and to give the joints a break???

Cycling with some higher reps may not be a bad idea now and then. Also, just taking some time off when youre body's feeling rundown is a good way to go

You also need to do higher reps every now and then to de-load your CNS

With high intensity volume should be lowor vice versa. Reps dont dictate the intensity. I can be doing 10 sets of singles with 60% of 1rm and be fresh. If you're using a high % of 1rm for low reps then your volume will be low.

Cycling reps with undulating periodization or many other ones is a good way to keep the body injury and overtraining free. Taking time off is also important.

I include high rep training for repetition effort regularly. One of the best ways to make progress for upper body for many people.

Submaximal training also comes in handy when deloading.

As much I hate to beat a dead horse - mixing up the rep scheme and taking breaks is very important for injury and overtraining prevention.

Apparently it's not the healthiest thing. I've read that Olympic weightlifters and professional powerlifters spend a lot of time swallowing painkillers in their old age.

But of what class of pro athletes is that not true?

Variety is almost as important to any serious lifter as Corned Beef Hash.
