Any experience with bad back pain?

For the last few days (this is the 4th) I've had some pretty bad back pain. It's located very close to the spine but on the left side. I don't think it's actually the spine, but just a spot in the lat very close to it. Anyways, it's hurt in the past (if it is the same injury) from a time when I fucked up doing squats (2 1/2 years ago) but usually only for a day or so. It tends to make my breath feel short tends to do fine as long as I'm not standing. I exercised yesterday, doing mainly a cardio circuit (Jumping Jacks, Burpees, Medicine Ball Slams, Sprawls, Dumbbell Swings) and it didn't hurt it at all, I just felt the same pain when I Was done as I did before, so I really don't think it's spinal.

I'm trying to avoid going to the doctor and doing any lengthy mri/ortho/chiro process unless it's absolutely necessary. No sudden trauma actually caused the current pain. I was working in the yard all day but no heavy lifting, which is why I thought at the start it was just sore. Anyone have any experience with either pulls/strains in the back, pinched nerves, or anything it could be?

sort of under your shoulder blade a bit?

I have gotten this before and so have 2 of my friends who also lift

I don't know what it is from. My guess is either BOR's or from taking the bar off the j-hooks before deadlifting.

It is not a sharp pain, but it is a bother. It just irritates me most of the time, when I get it. Thankfully hasn't happend in awhile.

Mine's mid back, and is painful enough to bother me unfortunately. Sadly, the pain started on Sunday and I hadn't lifted since Thursday. I want it to fucking feel better because I've been psyched as hell for Deads - enough to hit a 20lb PR today.

I've experienced back pain that occured from squatting as well (usually lower left side) and if I tried stuff like standing presses and leaned back too much or something it would re-occure. The best advice I can give would be to just rest up for a week or two until you're sure its not a problem and then try to get back into it (the lifting) and go by feel.

Take it very easy on your back for 1 week, if still in pain take another week off doing NOTHING, if still in pain see a doctor.

I hurt my back this year picking up my dog with horrible leaning out bent back form. took 1 week off with some anti inflams, 2nd week no pain so started back up light.

I Hurt my back about 3 years ago On a Ego trip at the Gym Trying to BOR more weight than I had before. The pain is in my lower back and i re aggravated it Dl last week, Its really a pain in the ass, the day after i aggravate it i cant walk for more than a few steps without feeling pain and having to grab a knee but its usually limited to a one day thing and the next day it starts to recover. The doctor says my muscle has a small tear that swells around a nerve in my back causing pain. Sucks But back pain can be avoided just warm up real good before a workout I started DL a few weeks ago and was nervous because of my back but ive been increasing my numbers pretty steadly up until last week when i failed to warm up properly but lesson learned. Any way sorry for the rambling go see a DR. see what he says you might have to rest it for a couple weeks

Ever try taking a hot bath in some epsom salt? Sounds strange I know, but I myself suffer from tension headaches (my neck will get so tense that the pain will make me vomit, no lie) and I've always paid close attention to the rest of my back because of it.

There is always stretching, maybe try getting a massage, go see a chiropractor, or just chill out and hop in a jacuzzi. I'm a big believer in hot epsom salt baths though. Epsom salt helps with mild aches, pains and strains and after you get out of the tub you feel pretty wiped out but good wiped out.

Are you using icyhot and/or Advil or another anti-inflammatory? That could help, as well as what The Colonel said. I used to have back problems for no apparent reason and honestly I think it was DL that finally cleared it up.
